Design Enlightenment
For some, this little blurb of random thoughts and ideas will probably not make any sense so I'll open this post with an apology for those not in the web design industry. However, for those that are, this rant will hopefully make more sense.
I've been stuck in a rut these last two months, and for the clients that stuck it out with me - I thank you! Work never seemed to meet my own approval, I felt uninspired and simply unmotivated. I came to the realization that I ultimately was going nowhere fast and that was the biggest problem. I felt like I was facing a brick wall. A dead end and the only way back out was turning around and backtracking through what appeared to be an endless path.
Some time after while still stuck in this pattern of self disgust, I was invited down to California to stay with one of the developers of Oakley.com, Jimmy Thomas. I jumped at the offer and put in my week of vacation right away. While down there I got to see and experience something I had compeltely forgotten about. I've been going to work for 8 - 10 hours every day and then coming home only to spend another 5 hours blowing through client projects. In a way I was self distructing myself. I got to experience life again. Beautiful (tolerable) weather, gorgeous landscape, and most importantly nice and like-minded people. Everything that Las Vegas is not.
I returned home full of motivation and energy, ready to be the next big thing in the design world. Ready to blow everyone and everything away. Has that happened? Of course not, but I'm back and ready to focus on creating great things and solving my clients problems.
Thanks go to Jimmy, everyone I met at Oakley and Ken Loh, who I unfortuntely missed while I was there.
